Software Coding Technology

This program of study offers training in the design, coding, and testing of software applications using a variety of programming languages, database manipulation, hardware maintenance, and operating systems functions. Graduates are prepared for entry-level employment as developers and analysts as well as other related information technology positions in a variety of industries.
Student have the option to pursue a 30-hour Certificate, a 45-hour Certificate, or an Associate of Applied Science Degree.
To meet graduation requirements for this program, students must successfully complete the specified courses listed below with a “C” average (GPA of 2.00) or better. A grade of “C” or higher is required in each IST and MAT course to progress in the program.
Candidates for graduation must also pass both the the MTA 98-381 Introduction to Programming using Python and the MTA 98-382 Introduction to Programming using Java certifications.
Minimum admission requirements (in addition to general admission requirements) must include one of the following:
- Attain a 15 composite score on the ACT
- Score a 230 or higher on the ACCUPLACER NG Reading Section and the ACCUPLACER NG Algebra Section
- Earn a “B” or above in Intermediate English and Reading (ENG 0124) and a “B” or above
in Beginning Algebra (MAT 0123)
- Complete 15 semester hours of program general education coursework with an average
of “C” or above at an accredited college or university. Developmental coursework does
not satisfy this requirement; and attend an orientation session with the program coordinator
when all other requirements are met.
Students in the Software Coding Technology Program must attend MCC full-time (15 or more semester credit hours).
All courses should be taken in sequence as outlined. Any deviation from the program must have prior approval of the program coordinator.

This program is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in professional and business offices. All courses can be transferred into the two-year Software Coding Associate of Applied Science Degree Program. A certificate will be awarded upon completion of the program.
Students must successfully obtain the obtain either the MTA 98-381 Introduction to Programming using Python OR the MTA 98-382 Introduction to Programming using Java certifications in order to graduate with the 30-hour certificate.
