Medical Office Management Technology

FIND YOUR WINGS

This two-year program of study is designed to prepare students to work in office positions in hospitals, doctors’ offices, health clinics, insurance companies, and other health-related organizations. The student will develop skills using medical terminology, accounting, coding, and computer software applications. Emphasis is placed on skills needed to become a medical billing clerk or an entry-level medical coder.

Students have the option to complete a 30-Hour Career Certificate, a 45-Hour Technical Certificate, or a two-year Associate of Applied Science Degree. Students in the program are members of Future Business Leaders of America/Phi Beta Lambda.

To meet graduation requirements for this program, students must successfully complete the specified courses listed below with a “C” average (GPA of 2.00) or better. A grade of “C” or higher is required in each BOT; ENG; A & P I Lecture and A & P I Lab course to progress in the program.

Minimum admission requirements, in addition to general admission requirements, must include one of the following:

  • Attain a 15 composite score on the ACT

  • Score a 230 on the ACCUPLACER NG Reading Section and the ACCUPLACER NG Arithmetic Section

  • Earn a “C” or above in Intermediate English and Reading (ENG 0124)

  • Complete 15 semester hours of program general education coursework with a “C” average or above at an accredited college or university. Developmental coursework does not satisfy this requirement.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

All students admitted into the program will be required to pay for a background check and a drug screening which will be performed after admission and prior to any clinical experiences. These fees are a part of the registration fees listed on the student's account. There are certain convictions which will prevent an individual from being eligible to participate in any clinical experiences through our affiliates. If a student is unable to participate in any clinical experiences due to the results of the background check, he/she will still be able to complete the 1-year Career Certificate.

If the student is employed in the healthcare field this may be able to take the place of the clinical experience offered through our affiliates depending on the nature of their job duties.

Some affiliates may also require a Mantoux Two-Step TB Skin Test, this test will be performed at the student's expense through the healthcare provider of their own choosing.
