Arts and Letters

Arts and Letters at Meridian Community College stands at the intersection of education, creativity, and community engagement. Through performances, lectures, and interactive programs, we inspire people to think critically, feel deeply, and connect authentically. Our work celebrates local culture while engaging with broader creative perspectives, fostering a sense of belonging, curiosity, and respect across generations. By weaving the arts into learning and life, Arts & Letters transforms creativity into a catalyst for personal and community growth.

2025-2026 Season

Distinguished Young Women of Lauderdale County
February 21 | 7:00 PM | McCain Theater

Distinguished Young Women (DYW), formerly America’s Junior Miss, was founded in 1958 as a way to reward the accomplishments of high school senior girls seeking to pursue higher education. In 2010, the national program evolved to Distinguished Young Women.

Today DYW is a scholarship program that is open to all 11th grade young women. It focuses on scholastics, interview, talent, fitness, and an on-stage self-expression presentation while providing an environment that allows participants to meet other young women across the county. Participants become part of a sisterhood, helping each other, training with each other and supporting each other while learning skills like interviewing, public speaking, confidence building and much more through workshops and online resources the DYW program offers. These skills not only prepare participants for the program but also for the world after high school and college.

The DYW Program is improving our community through scholarships by encouraging area students to attend local colleges and universities. It’s always free to enter the Distinguished Young Women Program.
