MCC to host 2024 My College Cares Day Oct. 15

On Tuesday, Oct. 15, Meridian Community College will once again step beyond its Highway 19 North campus and into the community for its annual My College Cares Day.

"This campus-wide volunteer initiative is a long-standing tradition beloved by the MCC family and the community. And this year's event promises to continue that legacy, said Marion Whiting, MCC's director of housing and student activities. Whiting also serves as the chairman of the My College Cares Committee.

From reading to children, painting murals, and planting gardens to performing music for retirement home residents, My College Cares Day volunteers  - including students, faculty, staff, and administrators - will engage in various service activities.

There will be nearly 60 sites where MCC volunteers will positively impact, Whiting said, adding, "We expect more than 600 faculty, staff, and students to join in this year."

One student reflected on past events: "It feels good knowing I've made a difference in the community."

In addition to Whiting, other My College Cares committee members include MCCers Lowell Martin, Nedra Bradley, Marlo Turner, Josh Taylor, Mandy Hurtt, Dr. Cedric Gathings, and Whitney Stevens.
