Foundation funds help fill tuition shortfall
Thankful. That’s how Destiny Barnett described she felt when learning she received a grant to help cover her tuition costs.
The grant was made possible by the Women’s Foundation - a public grant-making foundation focused on funding programs that support women and girls across the state. Meridian Community College received a $25,000 grant from the foundation that’s earmarked for female students.
Studying in MCC’s Health Information Technology Program – and earning all A’s – Barnett said getting the grant “was a huge weight lifted off my shoulders and a positive impact to finish strong and obtain my degree.”
She said, “It’s not been easy, but hard work, focus, and determination have made it possible.”
In May, Barnett graduated from the College’s HIT Program with an associate of applied science degree. She said, “This degree is not only beneficial for me but also for my two sons whom I love dearly, Jaylin Rush and Ji’Mari Rush.”
