My College Cares Day returns Oct. 18
Cleaning rugs for a retirement community was just one of the many tasks performed by students participating in the 2021 My College Cares Day. This year’s event is set Oct. 18.

Come Oct. 18, Meridian Community College will reach beyond the classrooms on its Highway 19 North campus and venture out into the community with its My College Cares Day.

This campus-wide volunteer effort has been a long-time favorite for both the community and campus, and this year will prove to be the same, said Brandon Dewease, associate dean for student engagement at MCC.

From reading to youths to painting walls to planting flowerbeds to playing music for retirement home residents, My College Cares Day participants canvas the community offering a helping hand or more.

Dewease noted there are more than 40 sites in which the volunteers will be helping, and he estimates more than 500 faculty, staff, and students will join the efforts.

"I feel good knowing I've made a difference in the community," said a student volunteer at last year's My College Day event.
