Tougaloo professor to speak at MCC's MLK program Jan. 18

Educator, pastor, writer, and consultant Jason Gibson will deliver the keynote address at Meridian Community College's Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Celebration on Thursday, Jan. 18.

With the theme of "Empowering the Dream Through Hope, Courage, and Unity," the event will begin at 1 p.m. in the McCain Theater on the MCC campus. Admission is free, and all community and campus members are welcome.

A Jackson native, Gibson is the department chair and assistant professor of history at Tougaloo College, and he is working on his doctoral degree in higher education administration at the University of Southern Mississippi. Gibson holds an associate of arts, bachelor of arts, and master of art degrees.

Over the years, Gibson has worked in the physical fitness sector but is now focused on academia, and his research interests include the evolution of the Civil Rights Movement as a theory and practice.

He serves as the youth and adult pastor at Jackson Revival Center and plans to release his first book, "Pray, Plan, Execute: When Believers Level Up," this year.

The program will include the announcement of the winners of a creative contest, the presentation of the MLK Program scholarship by the Charles L. Young family, and the Billy C. Beal Award.
