Matt Milner: MCCer of the Month for October
It’s a far cry from Matt Milner’s first job as a pizza, wings, and subs cook at a western New York state convenience store to today where he is Meridian Community College’s Media Specialist producing videos and live streams for the College.
Milner, who admits he’s cooked a lot of chicken wings (and is from the area where Buffalo wings originated), is MCCer of the Month for October. He was surprised with the announcement, surrounded by his College Communications colleagues. The MCCer of the Month is awarded to outstanding faculty and staff members for their work for the College. This MCC Foundation-based honor comes with a $250 stipend.
“The best part of MCC is everyone works together to reach its full potential rather than split into different parts of one college,” Milner said. In fact, among his proudest moments since he began his job at MCC in October 2018 is producing live streams for the College that garner thousands of views.
Another proud moment: Being named MCCer of the Month.
“My motivation comes from wanting to do the best in my field. When I see another school do something, I think of ways to do it better,” he added.
Milner holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Mississippi; he earned his associate degree from Itawamba Community College and attended Jamestown Community College in Olean, N.Y.
Though he desired to become an elementary education teacher, he was asked to write for the student newspaper at Itawamba that led Milner to pursue a job in the journalism arena. And when he was studying at Ole Miss, getting the opportunity to video sports led him to his career.
When he’s not at work at MCC, Milner can be found watching movies, sports, and hanging out with his wife, Jammie. The Milners have been married for five years and they have a three-year-old Australian Shepard dog named Duke.
