MCCer of the Month for May: AnHoward Hill

AnHoward Hill receives MCCer of the Month Award from MCC President Dr. Tom Huebner during the College’s End-of-the-Year Celebration.

For Meridian Community College Culinary Arts Coordinator and Instructor AnHoward Hill, the passion to pass on the love of cooking doesn't go on the back burner.

"She's the secret ingredient that drives the success of our Culinary Arts degree program," said Hill's division chairman, Josh Taylor. He explained Hill possesses a strong understanding of the culinary world, adding, "But more importantly, she knows how to convey that knowledge in a way that resonates with students."

Because of her dedication and enthusiasm, Hill was selected as MCCer of the Month for May. The MCC Foundation sponsors this monthly award to exemplify the College's hardworking employees who go above and beyond their daily duties. Honorees are peer-nominated. In addition to a commemorative plaque, honorees are given $250. Howard was recognized for the honor during the College's End-of-the Year Celebration.

Completing her fifth year at MCC, Hill said her students motivate her. "Seeing my students succeed in the workforce and develop careers … their growth from Day One as a culinary student to entry into the hospitality industry is a joy to watch unfold," she said. Blending learning and doing is a staple in Culinary Arts; her program is often asked to cater to campus events. Hill uses those opportunities as additional experiences for her students to add to their resumes.

"She holds high standards for her program and works tirelessly to propel her students to success," said one nominator.

And it's the work culture and family environment that Hill likes best about MCC. "I cannot think of a better place to work. MCC cares for its people," she said.

Hill and her husband, Jace, have a son, Bond, who is 11. Hill said, "We love going on adventures together, traveling, fishing, all things sports, and eating good food with family and friends."
