MCCer of the Month: Desi Leeper

At the MCCer of the Month celebration are Dr. Tom Huebner, Tanisha Clark, Casey Holladay, Desi Leeper, Jet Scarbrough, Dr. Leia Hill, Matt Milner, Amy Miller, Joy Smith, and Tony Boutwell.

Being motivated at work can mean different things to many people; for Desi Leeper, making sure that others know the great things Meridian Community College has to offer drives her.

Leeper, MCC webmaster and media specialist, is MCCer of the Month for February. The MCC Foundation sponsors this monthly award to exemplify the College's hardworking employees who go above and beyond their daily duties. Honorees are peer-nominated. In addition to a commemorative plaque, honorees are given $250.

"She is a model employee and personifies what the MCCer of the Month Award is intended to honor," said a nominee about Leeper. "Desi goes above her job duties by being available 24/7 to respond to campus emergencies or sudden urgent changes on the website. She always responds immediately and assures that it is 'no problem.'"

Leeper, a Meridian native, came to MCC six years ago, landing her first job as a recruiter at the College. "Some of my fondest memories were back when I started out in Recruiting, working with Brandon Dewease and Ashley Tanksley," she added, adding, "I'm very thankful for the bond that we all share to this day." As a side note, Dewease officiated her wedding.

Expressing gratitude for the supportive community at MCC, Leeper said, "I get to work with some of the best people, and I am so lucky to be surrounded by a community filled with such genuine, caring individuals. I have found lifelong friends here, been supported through difficult times, and celebrated during the big moments in my life," she said.

"You don't see a workplace like this very often."

With a bachelor of arts from the University of Mississippi and a master of arts in integrated marketing communications from the University of West Alabama, Leeper brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her job in the College Communications division. "I love that I am able to constantly grow and learn new skills. I work with a talented group of people who have taught me so much and have always pushed me to be the best I can be."

But it's not all about work for her; Leeper also finds fulfillment in her family life. "I'm married to my very best friend, Lucas, and we have an 18-month-old son named Jamie," she added.
