Junior high students add up wins

The Meridian Community College Math and Science Division hosted the regional Seventh and Eighth Grade Math Tournament, sponsored by the Mississippi Council of Teachers of Mathematics. 

This year's contest marked the first time in three years that the competition was held. Middle and junior high schools in MCC's district are invited to send top seventh and eighth-grade mathematics students to this competition. Students take a written standardized test.

The first and second-place winners in each grade qualify for the state competition on April 1 at the Mississippi School for Math and Sciences in Columbus. 

Seventh-grade winners include Eli Ip from Clarkdale Middle School, first place; Dylan Null from West Lauderdale Middle School, second place; and Cord Wilkerson from West Lauderdale Middle School, third place. Eight-grade winners include Neveah Gilmer from Clarkdale Middle School, first place; Deva Ravichandran from Southeast Middle School, second place; and Caden Purvis from Southeast Middle School, third place.
