Dr. Cedric Gathings discusses self-awareness with LEAD audience

Dr. Cedric Gathings speaks to audience members at LEAD session.

Stressing the key takeaway of “it’s all in the recovery,” Dr. Cedric Gathings, MCC vice president for student affairs and dean of students, reminded students to be aware of how they present themselves.

Dr. Gathings spoke at the Leadership Effectiveness and Development (LEAD) session hosted by Campus Life. “A lot of times, students come to college, and they think of tests, exams. They don’t think about self-awareness; they don’t think about time management; they don’t think about resilience,” he said.

In his presentation, Dr. Gathings encouraged students to be mindful of their actions and how those actions can affect their future. He touched on the significance of class attendance and timely assignment submission but shifted the conversation toward self-presentation.

He noted while academic success is essential, poor decisions or negative social media activity could harm future job prospects. Dr. Gathings explained the importance of understanding oneself and using the college experience as an opportunity for growth.
