Not all art is on display in a museum. Take, for example one Meridian Community College student: his art was seen on T-shirts sported by supporters and others at Meridian's Threefoot Festival.

The Threefoot Festival is a Downtown Meridian event filled with arts, kids' activities, live music, and food.

Twenty-year-old Meridianite Ean Fisher, a student in the College's Graphic Design Technology, created the design highlighting Meridian's iconic Threefoot building and incorporating other elements from the festival, including its signature color. "It started with just the guitar, and then as I kept looking," he said. Fisher discovered and made a place for different objects using the festival's other branding images. "I steadily tried to fit as many things as possible in it – just to make it well-rounded.”

Fisher also drew from a favorite art style – splatter paint – and worked with negative white space to make the design pop. He worked on the project off and on for a couple of weeks.

The design pleased the Threefoot festival clients, said Fisher's MCC Graphic Design Technology Program Coordinator and Instructor Daniel Ethridge. "He did a great job, an amazing job," Ethridge said.

And Fisher was surprised at the clients' reactions. “I've been in the running for different competitions but never won anything before."

The MCC student plans to complete his Graphic Design studies. When he graduates next May, he'll have two diplomas from MCC – an associate of applied science and an associate in arts. After that, Fisher wants to move on to the university level, pursuing a degree in psychology.
