All shades of pink and green could be seen in front of Meridian Community College's Ivy-Scaggs Hall as October was proclaimed Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Campus and community alike turned out to hear the proclamation, which stated the renewal of the commitment to fighting breast cancer, raising awareness, and supporting those affected by breast cancer.

The ceremony also served as a kickoff platform to announce the Queen City Race for Life and Street Strut on the MCC campus on Saturday, Oct. 21. This will be the third year that the event will be held on the College's campus, said Phyllis Holladay, MCC math instructor and coordinator of the event.

But that's not all.

“We're also excited to announce the addition of a car show to this year's festivities; the First Queen City Car Show will be held the same day as the race," Holladay said. She noted the day before, on Friday, Oct. 20, the Eagles Soccer teams will have pink-out games that evening.

As a part of the race, ambassadors are honored for their fights against breast cancer, and this year's class, Barbara Burnett, Donna Creel, and Mary Eades, were recognized at the kickoff announcement. Mack Phillips was also saluted as a caregiver ambassador.
