Meet student Derrius Ramsey

Derrius Ramsey

Meridian Community College freshman Derrius Ramsey has played basketball since he was in the seventh grade. “It’s been something I’ve loved ever since I was a little kid,” he said.

This 6-foot, 7-inch freshman from Meridian is following his passion and playing the power forward and center positions for the Men’s Eagles basketball team; Ramsey and his teammates recently faced their first opponents at home in the Graham Gymnasium.

It was the opportunity to play basketball that led him to come to the College. And, Ramsey said it’s the people he likes best about his college choice. “The Student Success Center, the instructors, actually, everyone around here is very nice,” Ramsey said.

He credits the Success Center for helping him academically. “If you’re trying to get some extra work finished, you can really get a whole bunch of stuff done. The Success Center is quiet and you can get help with everything you do.” Ramsey, who is enrolled in 16 semester credit hours and who lives on campus in Elliott Hall, logs in three hours each week in the Center that’s located in L.O. Todd/Billy C. Beal Success Center.

Though undecided on his career plans, Ramsey is interested in the dental field.
