New school year begins with first convocation

Convocation

Preparing for a new school year means more than just getting a new backpack and tennis shoes. For MCC faculty, staff, and administration, getting ready for a new year started with convocation – a first for the College.

Convocation offered a full day of campus overviews, updates, question and answer sessions, and professional development opportunities and the campus community was treated with lunches, snack bags, and promotional items.

Leia Hill, vice president for institutional advancement and executive director of the MCC Foundation, said the format changed because of faculty and staff requests to learn more about other departments, changes, and priorities.

Keynote speaker Dr. L. Lavon Gray, a certified leadership coach and trainer in educational and corporate institutions across the country and an NCAA football referee, shared his life story. He drew from information from his book, "Never Wrestle with Pigs," and recited Dr. Seuss' "Oh the Places You Will Go" – a book he gives as graduation gifts.

MCC begins its Fall Semester 2022 on Monday, Aug. 15.
