To celebrate National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week, Meridian Community College's Adult Education Department opened its doors to the community for a closer look.

Community Night offered the opportunity for family members, government officials, and residents to learn more about the transformative work happening at the Ralph E. Young Jr. Adult Education Center and other MCC Adult Education facilities.

The Adult Education program at MCC is a free service that allows adults to develop and build the basic skills necessary to function more effectively as members of society through improved educational skills, high school equivalency (HSE) completion, workforce readiness, and transitional skills for post-secondary education.

MCC Adult Education also offers essential reading, math, and writing refresher skills for individuals with a high school diploma but may need to improve in one or more of these areas.

"If you know someone who needs to get their high school equivalency diploma, learn to read, or improve their basic skills, let us know. We'll be glad to help," said Jennifer Whitlock, director of adult education.
