College hosts You Be The Chemist Challenge

Declan Mosley, Judah Cross, Samuel Davidson, and Ian Mosley won the East Mississippi Regional Challenge for the You Be The Chemist. 

Meridian Christian Home Educators team, including members Declan Mosley, 12, Judah Cross, 14, Samuel Davidson, 14, and Ian Mosley, 10, won the East Mississippi Regional Challenge for the You Be The Chemist® Challenge at Meridian Community College. 

Abieser Gutierez, Jada Rhone, James Johnson, and Kayla Williams won second place.

The College's Science and Wellness Division hosted the competition again this year.  

 The You Be The Chemist® Challenge is a collaborative, multi-level student science competition that celebrates the science of chemistry and elevates STEM careers. Fifth through eighth-grade students can compete in teams of three or four.  

Sponsored by the Chemical Educational Foundation, the challenge provides opportunities for various individuals and organizations, including schools, chemical industry members, educators, and other community partners, to unite and show their support for STEM education. This year marks the challenge's 21st anniversary.

Isabelle Perez, Camira Grace, and Bryce Rogers won third place.

Other regional winners were teams from Meridian Public School District's Carver Elementary School. Abieser Gutierez, 11, Jada Rhone, 10, James Johnson, 11, and Kayla Williams, 11, came in second place. Isabelle Perez, 10, Camira Grace, 10, and Bryce Rogers, 11, earned third place.
