Meridian Christian Home Educator team takes top spot

Shelton Pace, Nicholas Pace, Elijah Sliger and Judah Cross won the East Mississippi Regional Challege for the You Be The Chemist.

Meridian Christian Home Educator team, including members Judah Cross, Nicholas Pace, Shelton Pace, and Eiljah Sliger, won the East Mississippi Regional Challenge for the You Be The Chemist® Challenge at Meridian Community College. 

The College's Science and Wellness Division hosted the competition.  

 The You Be The Chemist® Challenge is a collaborative, multi-level student science competition that celebrates the science of chemistry and elevates STEM careers. Fifth through eighth-grade students can compete in teams of three or four.  

Emore Moss, Nadiya Randle, Dylan Rogers and A’Keylen Terry won second place.

Sponsored by the Chemical Educational Foundation, the challenge provides opportunities for various individuals and organizations, including schools, chemical industry members, educators, and other community partners, to come together and show their support for STEM education. This year marks the challenge's 20th anniversary. Amir Jimerson, Elijah Barber, Tyler Betts and Jontayvius Clark won third place.

Other regional winners were teams from Oakland Heights Elementary School. Elijah Barber, Tyler Betts, Jontayvius Clark, and Amir Jimerson came in second place. Emore Moss, Nadiya Randle, Dylan Rogers, and A’Keylen Terry earned third place. 

Also participating in the competition were Ja'Quan Cooper, Re'Zekiel Lewis, Em'Marie Chambliss, Tra'nyia Davis, Jaiden Ford, Desmond Gordon, Arielana Perez, Karmyn McCoy, Destiney Smith, Charlene Rogers, Geraldine Medrano, and Aaliyah Horner. These students were also from Oakland Heights.
