Social media post goes viral, sharing the message of MCC’s program

Social Media PostIt’s been said that a picture is worth a thousand words. A photo meant a couple of hundred thousand (and more) views in one case.

Recently, Meridian Community College Precision Machining and Advanced Manufacturing Program Coordinator and Instructor Brian Warren saw one of his students, Michael Bishop, cleaning out the inside of one of the computerized numerical control Haas Machines and took the photo.

Warren posted the photo on his social media account with the caption: “In a world where all you hear about is how young people don’t want to work, allow me to introduce you to one who does. He routinely cleans his machine after a job, keeps a check on his coolant, offsets, and tooling. He does nothing but stays busy. He is available for hire this May, and guess what? There are more like him in Meridian, MS, at the Meridian Community College Haas Advanced Manufacturing Center.”

Within a few days, the post went viral. Statistics show it’s been “liked” more than 2,500 times and shared dozens of times.

And it’s been viewed more than 200,000 times.

After he sent the social media message, Warren said, “before the end of the day, my phone and his (Bishop’s) phone batteries nearly died from people messaging us and getting notifications. I talked with 100 companies, probably 150, and the post is still going.”

Warren has heard from potential employers located in Texas, Florida, Louisiana, Minnesota, Washington, Utah, Virginia, Oregon, and Canada eager to talk to MCC students. Among the companies that have been in contact include Glock, SpaceX, and Gulfstream.

The program is housed at the Haas Advanced Manufacturing Training Center at MCC-Riley Workforce Development Center. There are only 38 of these training centers globally and only one in the Southeastern United States, and it’s located at MCC.
