Two MCCers named to College’s Talon Club

Two Meridian Community College employees, Kay Thomas and Michael Thompson, will be inducted into College's Talon Club when the MCC Foundation hosts the MCC Hall of Fame ceremony on Wednesday, March 8, at 2 p.m. in the McCain Theater in Ivy-Scaggs Hall.

MCCers are selected for this recognition for giving 30 or more years of service to the College. Both Thomas and Thompson are MCC graduates.

Michael Thompson

Thompson serves the College as vice president for academic affairs. He began his MCC career as a lab assistant and would later teach biology, become the chairperson of the math and science department, and dean of academic affairs. He has been selected for honors, including Dr. Clarence Roberts Outstanding Teacher of the Year award, Higher Education Working for Academic Excellence Award recipient, Phi Theta Kappa Distinguished College Administrator, and John Johnson Outstanding Staff award.

In addition, Thompson was named to the College's Hall of Fame in 2019.

Thompson holds both a bachelor's of science and a master's of science degrees from Mississippi College.

"I'm thankful to be here to serve our students," Thompson said. "The success of our students means more than anything else to us."

He and his wife, Pam, also an instructor in the College's Associate Degree Nursing Program, are the parents of three sons and have three grandchildren.

Kay Thomas

Thomas is the director of public information for the College Communications division, and she began working at MCC as a publications coordinator. She was named MCCer of the Month and received the John Johnson Outstanding Staff award.

She holds a bachelor of arts degree in journalism from the University of Mississippi.

"Spending 30 years at MCC has been fulfilling, rewarding, and a privilege. I encounter dedicated faculty, supportive staff members, and students who have been able to reach their dreams," Thomas said.

Thomas is a stepmom and grandmom.
