From outpatient total joint replacement to a heart transplant to vascular surgery and more, Meridian Community College Surgical Technology Program students learned new techniques and practices while attending the Association of Surgical Technologists in New Orleans.

Some 55,000 educators, surgical assistants, practitioners, and students participated in this national conference which included workshops, interaction panel, special sessions, and poster presentations. MCC Surgical Technology Program Coordinator and Instructor Paul Ford said students also had the opportunity to participate in a forum and Scrub Bowl, a Jeopardy-style session.

MCC Surgical Technology Program student Alexa Farmer from Stonewall was one of two participants in the conference to win a free registration to attend the organization’s 2023 conference in Chicago.
