Pinning ceremony honors Surg-Tech grads

Surgical Technology Students

Seven Meridian Community College students received their Surgical Technology Program pins during a ceremony held Wednesday, Aug. 3.

Students honored were Randi Allen, Kandi Agent, Emaree Reeves, Breola Payne, Alexa Farmer, Cheyene Sorrels, and Diana Triggs.

During the ceremony, Paul Ford, Surgical Technology Program director, told family and friends in the MCC Foundation Chapel of the work the students did and shared a bit about the students' personalities.

MCC President Dr. Tom Huebner told the students that the College is excited about their future. "We are proud of you. We know that you chose this profession during a tough time. To choose to go into a profession where you are directly engaged with people in various stages of health is pretty amazing. It says a lot about your character and your desire to do right in the world and to make a difference. And we're very thankful for that," he said.

Pinning ceremonies symbolize welcoming newly graduated or soon-to-be graduated students into the profession. "This is more than just a pin. It recognizes courage, leadership, and honesty," Fold told the students, adding, "it is a pin that recognizes your heart."

The College's Surgical Technology Program prepares an individual to serve as a surgical team member to assist the surgeon in providing optimum patient outcomes. The program includes all aspects of surgery, including the role of second assistant and circulator.
