Meet: Emily Casey

For Meridian native Emily Casey, choosing Meridian Community College was an easy decision.

“I like the location—it’s close to where I live—and the Tuition Guarantee made it even better,” said Casey, a 19-year-old sophomore and graduate of Russell Christian Academy. “I have a lot of schooling to do, so it’s pretty helpful to get my first two years here.”

Casey is studying pre-med with a focus on cellular and molecular biology. Her goal: to work in the health field. “I want to help people, and I find a lot of the health field very interesting,” she said.

This semester, Casey is enrolled in 19 credit hours and considers school her full-time job. “I like the environment here—there’s always something going on. All the people are very helpful, both the teachers and the staff,” she said.

Getting involved on campus was also important to Casey. She joined Ivy League Recruiting this year to connect with others and learn more about MCC. “I wanted to do a little bit more,” she explained. “It’s definitely helped me learn the campus, and I know a lot more people now, too.”

She’s also a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the international academic honor society for two-year colleges.

After earning her associate degree at MCC, Casey plans to transfer to the University of West Alabama and then attend the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson.

Outside of school, Casey enjoys swimming and horseback riding.
