Student Highlight: Dominick Joseph
For Dominick Joseph, success starts with hard work, a willingness to learn, and a
plan for the future.
The 19-year-old Meridian Community College Cosmetology Program student has maintained all A's since enrolling at MCC. He has earned a place on the President's List and joined Phi Theta Kappa, and the National Technical Honor Society.
"Those accomplishments mean a lot to me because they represent the dedication and effort I put into my education," Joseph said. "I also genuinely love learning something new every day."
A 2025 graduate of Meridian High School, Joseph chose MCC partly because of his family's connection to the college. His mother graduated from MCC's nursing program, making the campus familiar to him.
"When I decided to attend Meridian Community College, I felt like it was the best fit for me," he said. "I wanted to make history early in my career and create a strong foundation for my future."
Joseph's interest in cosmetology began with his father, who is a barber. He enjoys meeting clients, building relationships, and seeing their reactions after completing a service. The College’s program has also taught him communication and customer service skills.
After completing the cosmetology program in December, Joseph plans to attend Mississippi State University, where he intends to major in political science with a minor in pre-law. His goal is to become an intellectual property lawyer, helping people protect their brands, businesses, and ideas.
"I know that road will require dedication and hard work, but I'm excited about the future I'm building for myself," he said.
Along with his studies, Joseph works full time at a local healthcare facility and also works with his father. He credits MCC's faculty and staff with helping him balance his responsibilities and succeed in the classroom.
"My teachers, advisors, classmates, and everyone I've encountered have been incredibly supportive and welcoming," he said.
He especially praised his computer instructor, Michelle Stokley, for her positive impact on his college experience.
Joseph encourages prospective students to visit MCC, meet the advisors and instructors, and experience the campus for themselves.
As he prepares for the next step in his education, Joseph hopes his story inspires other young people to work toward their goals, regardless of their circumstances.
"Keep God first and love your family," he said. "Your circumstances and where you come from don't have to determine where you end up. It's not about where you come from; it's about where you're heading."
