MCC showcases workforce training programs during state treasurer’s visit

Meridian Community College highlighted its workforce training programs Tuesday during a visit from State Treasurer David McRae.

McRae, along with Lee Youngblood, director of the unclaimed property division for State Treasury, toured MCC’s Workforce Development Center seeing how the College prepares students for in-demand careers in fields like diesel mechanics, welding, industrial maintenance, and more.

“What stood out to me is the focus on hands-on training and job placement,” McRae said. “I kept asking, ‘Do these students have jobs when they finish?’ The answer was yes. These programs are helping young men and women step directly into great careers,” McRae said

McRae also discussed the state’s 529 savings programs, which help pay for education, including community college and technical training. He noted that more students are choosing career-focused programs over traditional four-year degrees.

“MCC is meeting that demand by offering training that leads to strong, good-paying jobs,” McRae said.
