On the job – Sherry Leggett

Sherry LeggettAs the loan/data processor for the College's Financial Aid division, Sherry Leggett assists with the technical aspects of financial aid. But that's not all.

She also helps educate current and future students on financial aid available at MCC. "One thing that I've learned and am still learning is how important financial aid is in assisting students to achieve their dreams. Without it, many students never have the opportunity to further their education and possibly may not be able to achieve their goals," she said.

"These students are the future," Leggett added.

Her job is rewarding and challenging. Leggett said she loves hearing the students' stories and helping them achieve their dreams. "It’s great to be one helping people get money. It's tougher when things don't work out, and there's nothing you can do," she said.

She notes she works with colleagues with the same mindset of making the students the No. 1 priority. "The team environment is very important to me; everyone working towards the same goals is helping our students be the best version of themselves for the future.”

An MCC alumna, Leggett earned her associate degree in business and received her bachelor of science degree from Mississippi State University-Meridian in business administration and accounting.

She and her husband, Roger W. Leggett, will celebrate their 40th anniversary later this year, and they have two sons, a daughter, and three grandchildren.

Leggett’s MCC office is located in the Financial Aid Office in Ivy-Scaggs Hall. To contact her, email sleggett@meridiancc.edu or call 601.553.3486.
