MCC Community Band to honor veterans with patriotic concert

The Meridian Community College Screaming Eagle Community Band will present A Salute to Veterans on Sunday, Nov. 10, at 3:30 p.m. in the McCain Theater.
The concert is free of charge.
Chris King, MCC director of bands, said the performance will honor those who have served and those who currently serve in the country’s armed forces. Veterans, their families, and community members are encouraged to attend and join in recognizing the nation’s service members.
The concert program will feature patriotic and military selections, including Robert W. Smith’s arrangement of America the Beautiful and Karl L. King’s marches Lexington and Our Heritage. The band will also pay tribute to each branch of the military with Bob Lowden’s Armed Forces Salute.
The Screaming Eagle Community Band is made up of MCC students, area high school musicians, and community members of all ages. Band organizers say that mix of experience is part of what makes the group special.
“It’s wonderful to see people of all ages and backgrounds come together to make music,” said King. “Learning happens on all levels, and everyone contributes to the experience. It’s a fun and meaningful way to celebrate the season and honor our veterans.”
