Resource fair brings agencies and MCCers together
Students and community resource personnel meet during the College's Resource Fair
The purpose of Meridian Community College's Resource Fair was to connect students with helpful resources and eliminate barriers. Organizers were confident that the goal was met – even on a rainy day.
"This is good. It's getting students in touch with agencies that can help them. We've got people and agencies here who can help with housing, jobs, their children, and more," said Shaquita Hopson Alfonso, MCC associate director of advising and retention. She and others from Student Affairs helped to organize the event.
More than 18 agencies participated in the fair, bringing personnel from organizations that included Weems, Meridian Housing Authority, Multi-County Community Service Agency, Ability Works of Meridian, and others to the Ivy-Scaggs mall. Alfonso noted the number of students and agencies participating was the best in three years.
"There are so many things MCC can help students with – and we have many MCC representatives at the resource fair," Alfonso said. She added, "there are a lot of things we can't help people with, but we want to give them a connection that can help them."
A Spring Semester 2023 Resource Fair is being planned.
