PTK chapter garners accolades at regional session

PTKMeridian Community College’s chapter of the international academic honor society, Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), received five awards from the society’s Mississippi/Louisiana Regional Awards Gala.

The gala was held virtually, said Phyllis Holladay, advisor for the MCC chapter, Nu Upsilon.

MCC sophomore Sara Beth Brown received the Order of the Golden Key, a recognition that salutes a chapter member who best embodies the hallmarks of PTK: scholarship, leadership, service and fellowship. Chapter advisors nominate honorees. “Serving as an officer for our chapter for two years, Sara Beth has been a tremendous asset to our team, and we have enjoyed watching her grow personally and as a leader,” said Holladay.

Other accolades included Distinguished Chapter Advisor Team Award for Nu Upsilon Advisors Dr. Tommy Winston, Pam Vayda and Holladay, and Distinguished Chapter Officer Team Award.

The chapter also garnered a second-place award for its Honors in Action Project. Nu Upsilon hosted Media Unmasked event in November. It also won the Honors in Action Distinguished Theme Award for the Perceptions of Progress.
