Phi Theta Kappa honor society installs new members
One hundred and thirty-nine Meridian Community College students were installed as new members of the Nu Upsilon chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) during a ceremony held in the McCain Theater.
Phi Theta Kappa is the international academic honor society for community and junior colleges. The organization promotes leadership, scholarship, service, and fellowship. Membership is open to any student who has earned 12 semester hours and has a grade point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 scale.
In his address to the audience, MCC President Dr. Tom Huebner congratulated the inductees noting that becoming a member of PTK is important on their college and career journey. “You’re joining an elite group of students who are not only from the United States, but they’re from all over the world. Phi Theta Kappa is a big deal.”
Being a member of PTK signifies the students’ achievements. “You’re not a member by accident. You got here because of your hard work, your intelligence, your persistence, your desire to step out, step above, do more, do right, challenge yourself,” Dr. Huebner said. “You got here because of your hard work.”
