MCC to host POW/MIA flag-raising ceremony

Meridian Community College will honor those who have given sacrificially and their families with a Prisoner of War/Missing in Action flag-raising ceremony on Friday, Sept. 19, at 9 a.m. in front of the Ivy-Scaggs Hall circle.

The event is open to students, employees, and community members.

“We want to honor, remember, and be thankful for the service members who are willing to stand in the gap for us,” said Shaquita Hopson Alfonso, MCC associate director of military and veteran services, about the flag-raising ceremony.

The U.S. Department of Defense statistics note that 81,900 Americans remain missing from armed conflicts involving U.S. forces.

In addition to the raising of the flag along with the United States flag, “Taps” will be performed.
