Incoming MCC students, parents find answers

Kimberly Rush, left, associate dean of advising, retention and student success, talks to Will Schular and his mom Mary Taylor about his Fall Semester 2023 scheduled during Parent/Family Information Night. Eager to start his college studies, recent high school graduate Will Schular had questions. And that's where Meridian Community College's Office of Parent Services and Student Support had answers.

Schular, 18, of Bailey, along with his mom Mary Taylor, came to Parent/Family Information Night, where they met with College staffers who assisted them and others in enrolling in classes, answering financial aid questions, and learning about MCC's Student Success Center.

"It was nice to have individualized attention," Taylor said. Nedra Bradley, executive director of parent services and student support, said the event's purpose was to answer questions that may not have been addressed earlier. "It's also a chance for parents who may not have attended the College's orientation session, Liftoff, and for those parents of not-first-year students to gain information,” she added.

Schular wants to study in the College's Radiologic Technology Program; during the session, he arranged his schedule and enrolled in foundational courses. "MCC is the best option for me," he added, noting that he'll take a full course load in the fall and continue working at his part-time job.

"I feel like I've got people here who I can talk to," he added about meeting College staffers at Parent/Family Information Night.

The next session is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 1. Click here for more information.
