New MCC students gear up for Fall Semester 2024 with Orientation

At Meridian Community College's recent orientation session, Yasmyne McCann and Mariah Shepherd joined the nearly 125 students in preparing for the Fall Semester 2024, which begins today, Monday, Aug. 19.

"This was very welcoming," said McCann, about the College's orientation, where new incoming students explore the MCC campus, find classrooms, meet staff, and register for classes. McCann, 19, from Gautier and a member of the MCC Track Team, plans to pursue a career in nursing. Mariah Shepherd, 18, from Meridian, shared McCann's positive impressions, noting that MCC's convenience was a key reason she wanted to begin her academic journey at MCC. She plans to become an orthodontist.

Mandy Hurtt, MCC executive director of recruiting and admissions, said orientation is designed to support student success. "We want them to succeed and do everything we can to help them find their pathways to graduation."
