Walking for O: Event raises funds for scholarship

Ocampo Walk

They came. They walked. They gave money.

Some 100 campus and community people turned out for the first Tanya Renia Ocampo Memorial Walk held on the MCC Track on April 2. The efforts supported helping to fund the Tanya Renia Ocampo Memorial Scholarship Endowment.

As walkers strolled around the track, a variety of vendors sold a wide array of items from jewelry to faith clothing while community service booths offered information. A concession stand provided treats.

In addition to vendors and community service booths, Todd Tilghman, pastor, singer, and winner of the national talent competition, The Voice, sang and shared. Tilghman and Ocampo knew each other, and Tilghman was Ocampo’s pastor.

Ocampo, an MCC instructor and program coordinator for the Medical Office Management Technology Program, tragically died in November 2021.
