Facing facts of opioid abuse

MS Bureau of Narcotics

Stressing knowledge about opioid abuse and its associated risks were just some topics explored by Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics Agent Adrian Armon when he spoke to Meridian Community College students Tuesday.

A 29-year veteran with the bureau, Armon said agency representatives are talking to community and junior college students about the opioids and getting feedback from students. "The U.S. makes up only 4.4 percent of the world's population. But we consume 80 percent of the world's opioids. And we consume 99 percent of the world's hydrocodone. Opioids are mostly the painkillers," he said to students in MCC Psychology Instructor Suzie Gibson's classes.

Armon narrated his journey from a rookie to becoming an undercover agent. In addition, he showed images of real and fake opioids and videos and answered students' questions.
