Conference to recognize clay works, artists in action
Meridian Community College and the MCC Miller Art Gallery will serve as the host for the Mississippi Clay Works Inaugural Conference on Saturday, Oct. 8.

The conference is in conjunction with the juried competition and exhibition of contemporary mixed media ceramic works. Jurors will choose from clay works from Mississippi and other Southern states with a unique and individual interpretation of the theme, "What Happens After." The theme expresses an after-effect of something drastic that happened to the artist.

The reception and awards announcement is set for 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the Miller Art Gallery.

As a part of the conference, there will be artists at work during a special presentation from 3-5 p.m. in the McCain Theater, Danny Meisinger from Kansas will demonstrate his skills with large clay projects on the wheel. Sam Clark from Mississippi will entertain potters with his stories and hand-built sculptures. Susan Thomas from Florida will use various clay techniques and designs, sharing stories and songs from the past.
