MLK competition calls for creativity from students
Calling all MCC full-time students and ninth-graders to high school seniors: Your creative talents are wanted.

The College’s Martin Luther King Jr. Creative Competition committee members are accepting submissions now through Dec. 1. The theme is “We Are the Dream,” and entries of spoken word, rap, song, play, TikToks, performance, and artwork will be considered. Marlo Turner, financial services manager, is overseeing this competition.

Turner noted the theme is based on Dr. King's quote, "I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: 'We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.'”

"The creative piece can be how one is making or plans to make a difference in the community. Or, it can be a reaction to Dr. King's quote,” Turner suggested.

Three winners will be chosen from the high school level and three from the college level. First-place winners will receive $200, second place, $150, and third place, $75. Turner noted that winners must present their works during the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Celebration on Monday, Jan. 23, at 1 p.m. in the McCain Theater.

Send submissions to Turner at the College in Room 133 of Todd Hall or mail to Turner's attention at MCC, 910 Highway 19 North, Meridian, MS 39307.
