Marion Mayor Larry Gill to keynote MCC's MLK Celebration

Marion Mayor Larry GillMarion Mayor Larry Gill will deliver the keynote address at Meridian Community College's Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemorative Celebration on Wednesday, Jan. 22.   

With the theme of "Mission Possible: Protecting Freedom, Justice, and Democracy in the Spirit of Nonviolence 265," the event will begin at 1 p.m. in Workforce Room 171 of MCC Riley Workforce Development Center. Admission is free, and all community and campus members are welcome.   

Gill was elected Marion's mayor at 26 in 2021 and is planning to run for office this year to continue to be the town's mayor. He was earlier named to the Mississippi Municipal League's Board of Directors for the 2024-25 term.  

The program will include the announcement of the winners of a creative contest, the presentation of the MLK Program scholarship by the Charles L. Young family, and the Billy C. Beal Award.  

"The MLK Celebration is a special time for us to come together as a community to honor Dr. King's legacy," said Marlo S. Turner, MCC payroll manager and chairman of the College's MLK Commemorative Celebration committee. "It's about reflecting on his message and how we can carry it forward in our own lives."
