MCC receives Military Friendly School® designation
Meridian Community College has been selected as a 2023-24 Military Friendly School®
– an honor that salutes top colleges, universities, and trade schools that are doing
the most to embrace American veterans.
The Military Friendly® Schools list sets the standard for higher education institutions to provide veterans and their spouses the best opportunities. It offers a comprehensive guide for veterans and their families using federal agencies' data sources and proprietary survey information from participating organizations.
"We received a gold ranking this year," noted Shaquita Hopson Alfonso, MCC's associate director of advising and retention and C2C coach, who works with military personnel and their families on the College's campus.
More than 1,800 schools participated in the 2023-2024 survey, and only 250 were selected for the gold award status for their leading practices, outcomes, and effective programs, according to the Military Friendly School® organization.
Alfonso noted with two strategic bases in Meridian, NAS Meridian and Key Field, and the overwhelming support they give to College, MCC is honored to serve the military, veterans, and their dependents. She added that the administration, faculty, and staff strive to give the best service possible and are committed to those who serve.
The Military Friendly School® organization noted that "we measure their ability to meet thresholds for retention, graduation, job placement, repayment, persistence, and loan default rates for all students and, specifically, for student veterans.”
MCC President Dr. Tom Huebner said the recognition is a badge of honor for the College and the community. “Shaquita's valuable efforts directly benefit military personnel and their families, and we're grateful for the support from various campus departments, including financial aid, admissions, advising, registrar's office, and other student service agencies who contributed to making this happen for our students," he said.
