Making spirits bright with holiday displays

Laura Pender and Anna McRae adjust the Workforce Development tree and using extra material from the “Oh, Snowy Night” tree.MCCers -  students and staffers -  decked the halls for the 53rd Annual Trees of Christmas at Greek Revival Merrehope and Victorian F.W. Williams historic homes to celebrate the season.

Guests tour the houses at the annual event to see 50 trees decorated by various local and regional businesses, organizations, and schools. And MCC's creative spirit shines as much as the lights on the trees.

With the theme of “Making Futures Bright,” the College’s Phil Hardin Foundation Honors College students crafted their tree with photos, signs, and lighted ornaments. Honors College co-adviser Morgan Boothe said participating in the tour was also a way to show that Honors College is a part of MCC, Meridian, and the surrounding area.

Laureta Chislom, coordinator for lifelong learning, enjoyed the tree task. “This is an amazing opportunity to give back to the community and display some of the creativity and talents of MCC employees.” Adorned with oversized white snowflakes and ornaments, the MCC Continuing Education entry is named “Oh, Snowy Night.”

The tree tours will continue through Dec. 30 from Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 12, from 1-4 p.m. Tickets are $15, adults; $5, students. The homes are located at 905 Martin Luther King Memorial Drive, Meridian.
