Stanley Bishop: MCCer of the Month

It’s been said that Stanley Bishop’s commitment to student success is unwavering.

For 17 years, Bishop has shared both technical expertise and real-world insight with students in Meridian Community College’s Industrial Maintenance Program.

“Stanley consistently demonstrates a strong work ethic and a servant’s heart,” said Dr. Lori Smith, dean of workforce education. “He not only ensures the day-to-day operations of the program run smoothly, but he also actively looks for ways to enhance the student experience,” she added.

Doing his best for the students is a way of life for Bishop.

“One year, we took 11 students to Nissan for interviews, and they hired 10,” Bishop recalled. “It verified we were doing it right at MCC.”

Others have noticed Bishop’s dedication; he was selected as MCCer of the Month for November. The MCC Foundation sponsors this monthly award to exemplify the College's hardworking employees who go above and beyond their day-to-day duties. Honorees are peer-nominated. In addition to a commemorative plaque, recipients are gifted $250.

Bishop said one of the most enjoyable aspects of his job is equipping young people with skills that will benefit them throughout their careers. And ask him what motivates him, and he’ll say: “Remembering to do my best for the students.”

A colleague noted that Bishop leads by example, showing up early, staying late when needed, and always being willing to lend a hand to a fellow instructor or student. “He goes above and beyond to help students who are struggling, and his calm, level-headed demeanor creates an environment where students feel supported and motivated to succeed. His participation in professional development opportunities and recruiting events also reflects his commitment to the program’s growth and long-term success.”

A native of House, Bishop graduated from Neshoba Central High School and attended MCC, East Central Community College, and Shelton State Community College. Throughout his career, he’s also gained extensive trade-specific training, and he completed an apprenticeship with General Motors.

Bishop and his wife Dena, have been married for 45 years. “We have three daughters, Laura, Lindsay, and Emily and five grandchildren who have spoiled me.”
