Kirkland named MCCer of the Month for October
Whether she’s greeting visitors with a smile or seeing that the human resources office runs smoothly, Kate Kirkland approaches her work with care and compassion, qualities that earned her recognition as Meridian Community College’s MCCer of the Month for October.
The MCC Foundation sponsors this monthly award to exemplify the College's hardworking employees who go above and beyond their day-to-day duties. Honorees are peer-nominated. In addition to a commemorative plaque, recipients are gifted $250.
Kirkland, who serves as human resources coordinator, has been part of the MCC family for five years. Known for her professionalism and kindness, she greets everyone who walks into the HR office with a friendly welcome and a willingness to help. Her colleagues say she goes above and beyond to ensure accuracy and efficiency in her work, making her an invaluable part of the team.
“Kate exemplifies outstanding customer service and professionalism in every interaction,” said one coworker. “She’s dedicated to improving our office and always creates a positive environment for everyone who comes through the door.”
A Meridian native, Kirkland says she’s grateful to work alongside such a supportive group of colleagues. “Even on stressful days, we still find time to laugh and lift each other up,” she said. “It truly makes MCC a special place to be.”
Her first job was at McDonald’s, and she’s carried the same hardworking attitude ever since. “I genuinely enjoy helping people and making a positive impact in their day,” she said.
Faith and family are central to Kirkland’s life. She shared one of her favorite Bible verses, Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
“What motivates me is getting things done, doing my best, and making a difference,” Kirkland said. “I’m thankful for God, my wonderful husband, and our three amazing kids who fill my life with joy.”
Her immediate supervisor, Angie Pickard, director of human resources, said of Kirkland: “She consistently takes initiative, approaches tasks with a go-getter attitude, and is willing to step up when needed. Her consistent performance and commitment to excellence make her truly deserving of this recognition. We’re proud to celebrate Kate as our MCC’er of the Month,” Pickard added.
