Jones named MCCer of the Month

Ask Eric Jones what’s the best part of his job, and he’ll tell you: it’s the opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives.

That commitment to his students and his program is what earned this Welding and Cutting Technology Program coordinator and instructor the honor of being named Meridian Community College’s MCCer of the Month for September.

The MCC Foundation sponsors this monthly award to exemplify the College's hardworking employees who go above and beyond their day-to-day duties. Honorees are peer-nominated. In addition to a commemorative plaque, recipients are gifted $250.

Jones, a Philadelphia native, has taught welding at MCC for 10 years. A graduate of the College’s Welding and Cutting Technology Program himself, he said hearing from former students who have gone on to build successful careers motivates him to keep moving forward.

Before joining MCC, Jones worked at H&H Chief Sales in Carthage. Today, his impact is seen both in and out of the classroom. He has championed the use of new tools such as the welding simulator, encouraged students to take part in math tutoring, and visited local schools to help recruit future welders.

“Eric truly embodies what it means to go above and beyond for our students and for MCC. His dedication to the Welding program is unmatched. He not only brings exceptional skill and integrity to his work, but he also creates an environment where students feel supported and motivated to succeed,” said Dr. Lori Smith, dean of workforce education.

One nominator said of Jones, “he shows genuine pride in being part of the college and readily volunteers to help with events, workshops, and community activities. Eric brings great energy and a can-do attitude to everything he does, and it’s clear he’s all in when it comes to serving both the college and the community.”

Jones said the people he works with at MCC are what make the College special. He also credits his family for inspiring him. He and his wife, Hailey, have been married 10 years and are parents to Kooper, 8, and Adelyn, 3.
