Robertson named MCCer of the Month for August

Before advising students at Meridian Community College, Aisha Robertson once cheered on athletes as a cheer coach.
Today, she’s still cheering, but now her focus is on encouraging students to find their wings.
Robertson, who serves as the Practical Nursing and Health Education advisor, has been named MCCer of the Month for August. In this role, she guides students through their educational journey, offering the same energy and encouragement she brought to her first job as a cheer coach.
“Helping students is the most enjoyable part of my job,” Robertson said. “I want them to know that they have someone in their corner.”
Robertson, who has worked at the College for four years, was named MCCer of the Month for August; the announcement was made during the convocation. The MCC Foundation sponsors this monthly award to exemplify the College's hardworking employees who go above and beyond their day-to-day duties. Honorees are peer-nominated. In addition to a commemorative plaque, recipients are gifted $250.
A native of Birmingham, Alabama, who now calls Meridian home, Robertson is an MCC alumna. She earned her associate degree through dual enrollment, then went on to the University of West Alabama for both a bachelor’s degree in exercise science and a master’s degree in sports administration/physical education. She later completed her master’s in health administration at Mississippi College.
Robertson enjoys the engagement and activities the College offers. She draws daily motivation from her faith and a commitment to self-motivation. “Life motivates me,” she said. “I’m thankful every day that God wakes me up.”
Others have noticed Robertson’s commitment to her job and students. “Aisha is one of the most efficient and effective individuals I have met in my professional career. In every area that she has worked here at MCC, she learns the ins and outs quickly and ensures that every ‘I’ is dotted and every ‘T’ is crossed,” a colleague said. “She ensures that her students are taken care of in every facet.”
“Not only does she take care of her students in the day-to-day workings of her position, but she also advocates for students in each program she is assigned. She attends meetings for each program and offers guidance based on student feedback,” another nominator said.
Jeanette Howell, director of advising and Robertson’s supervisor, said as the College’s health education advisor, Robertson consistently ensures her students are informed and prepared for every step of their academic journey.
“She proactively compiles comprehensive resource lists and continually seeks out new information to support student success. Aisha is always two steps ahead - nothing catches her off guard, and her dedication makes a real difference in the lives of the students she serves. We are so fortunate to have her on our team here at MCC,” Howell added.
One of Robertson’s most memorable life moments came when she gave birth to her daughter, Addison Grace, who was born weighing just 2 pounds, 11 ounces. “That moment taught me that when you put your trust and faith in God, anything is possible,” she said.
Her favorite quote, “What you don’t change, you’re choosing,” reflects the determination she shares with students and others.
Outside of work, Robertson enjoys time with Addison Grace, her two dogs, Ella and Percy, and her fiancé, Henry Anderson. The couple plans to marry in October.
