Darren Bane: MCCer of the Month for October

At the MCCer of the Month celebration are Dr. Tom Huebner, LaToya Gray, Michelle Thompson, Dr. Leia Hill, Carolyn Martin, Darren Bane, Parker Manley, Mallory Hardy, Margie Moore, Victoria Liddell and Joseph Knight.

He’s been described as a problem-solver, a team member, and an MCC advocate.

Darren Bane is also MCCer of the Month for October. During a staff meeting, Bane, the director of Workforce Development, was surprised with the employee recognition award.

The MCC Foundation sponsors this monthly award to exemplify the College's hardworking employees who go above and beyond their day-to-day duties. Honorees are peer-nominated. In addition to a commemorative plaque, recipients are gifted $250.

“I was so proud Darren received this award,” said Joseph Knight, vice president for Workforce Solutions and Bane’s supervisor. “Darren exemplifies the kind of manager every organization values. He is not only confident in his abilities but is also patient, trustworthy, and deeply committed to the well-being of those he leads.”

Bane admits the best thing he likes about MCC is his colleagues. “I have a wonderful team around me that shares my passion for positively impacting our students and the industry partners we serve,” he said.

An MCC employee for nine and a half years, Bane’s first job out of college was as an assistant manager trainee at Walmart. The Louisville native earned his bachelor of business administration in marketing from Mississippi State University.

“One of the most rewarding parts of my job is witnessing the personal and professional growth of individuals we train,” he said. Others see that Bane is at the forefront of that as well. “Darren is a big reason why we now have a successful Utility Lineman Program here at MCC. He is loyal to the job and the College,” a nominator wrote.

Knight added, “It’s a privilege to work alongside Darren as MCC strives to train the industrial athletes of our workforce.”

Bane is married to his high school sweetheart, Lisa, and they are the proud parents of three daughters. The Banes also have four grandchildren, who Bane admits they love to spoil. And when he’s not working on the job, Bane has a passion for all sports – whether it's playing, attending, or watching from home. “Family time is equally important to me,” he added.
