MCCer of the Month: Angela Guimaray

Joining in the MCCer of the Month celebration are Melissa McClure, Joseph Knight, Dr. Leia Hill, Angela Guimaray, Dr. Lara Collum, and Dr. Tom Huebner.

Helping others with tasks is essential to Angela Guimaray, administrative assistant in Meridian Community College’s Nursing and Health Education division. "I enjoy offering whatever assistance I can make to the workload of the faculty, staff, or students that I come in contact with a little bit easier," she said.

Guimaray's positive attitude, gratitude, and dedication have earned her the MCCer of the Month for November. The MCC Foundation sponsors this monthly award to exemplify the College's hardworking employees who go above and beyond their daily duties. Honorees are peer-nominated. In addition to a commemorative plaque, honorees are given $250.

Surprised when receiving the award, Guimaray noted that it was special that she received the honor during the month that observes Thanksgiving. "The philosophy I try to live by is 'in happy moments praise God, in the difficult months seek God. In the quiet moments, trust God. In every moment, thank God.'"

One of Guimaray's colleagues described her as "one of the hardest working people I know. She is willing to help anyone who asks. Most of the time, we don't even need to ask; she has already completed what we needed. She is our own personal mind-reader, therapist, and master of all things student and faculty-related."

Dr. Lara Collum, associate vice president of nursing and healthcare education, said that Guimaray excels in customer service and interpersonal skills. “She is organized and is always searching for ways to improve processes. She juggles many activities and tasks and has recently helped in the sim lab operating the simulation manikins. Angie is a great asset to the nursing division and MCC!”

A native of Hickory, Guimaray graduated with a bachelor of science in exercise physiology from the University of Southern Mississippi. Her husband, Mirko, is from Lima, Peru. "So getting to meet his family and seeing where he grew up was something I will cherish forever," she said.

She added, "The food was wonderful, the scenery was beautiful, and seeing Machu Picchu was such an unforgettable experience."

Closer to home, Guimaray finds working with her colleagues akin to being with family. She said, "Their caring attitude and friendliness have stood out to me since my first day here."

She added, "I see on a daily basis their dedication to giving their best to the students, which is truly inspiring."
