MCCer of the Month: Cindy Herrington
When Cindy Herrington looks back on her six years at Meridian Community College, she sees more than just work; she sees a second family.
As the administrative assistant for the Dental Hygiene and Health Education programs, Herrington thrives on the close connections she has made with students, faculty, and staff.
“There’s just something special about the people here,” Herrington said. “They’re not just co-workers — they’re family. They’ve supported me through some tough times and celebrated with me during the good times.”
Recently, there was a cause for celebrating more good times because Herrington was named MCCer of the Month for March. The MCC Foundation sponsors this monthly award to exemplify the College's hardworking employees who go above and beyond their day-to-day duties. Honorees are peer-nominated. In addition to a commemorative plaque, recipients are gifted $250.
Herrington, who is from Little Rock, wears many hats in the Dental Hygiene Department and Health Education Division. “She is always patient and kind in dealing with the students who are not only learning new skills but also learning a new computer program to complete those skills. She is often in contact with local dental offices when patient referrals are made,” a nominator wrote.
Dr. Paige Pennington, director of dental programs, coordinator of the MCC Dental Hygiene Program, and Herrington’s supervisor said Herrington is a true team member. “She is not only dedicated to our mission in health education, but she maintains a great sense of humor in stressful situations. She is highly capable, completing a myriad of tasks daily to keep the department running smoothly.”
But Herrington’s favorite part of the job is the personal relationships she builds with the students. “I get to see them grow and learn for two years and then fly off and leave the nest ready to face the world. Then I get to watch them on social media get married, have babies, and become hygienists,” Herrington said.
Family is at the heart of what motivates Herrington. Her son Hunter and daughter Hailey, both MCC alums, are two of her biggest sources of pride. But it’s her ‘one-and-only grandbaby,’ Macie Kate, who holds a special place in her heart. “She’s so smart, and she’s got Mamaw wrapped around her little finger,” Herrington laughed.
Throughout her career and personal life, Herrington has drawn inspiration from a quote she holds dear, shared by Winnie the Pooh:
“Always remember you are
Braver than you believe,
Stronger than you seem,
Smarter than you think,
Loved more than you know.”
For Herrington, it’s the connections she’s made along the way that keep her coming back to work every day. “There’s no better place to work,” she said. “The people here are so genuine, and I’m grateful to be part of this community.”
