Meridian Community College Librarian Kristi Williamson makes a difference with her can-do attitude and a passion for helping others.

Her way of reaching out to help others and giving it all to her MCC tasks has earned her the MCCer of the Month recognition for June. The MCC Foundation sponsors this monthly award to exemplify the College's hardworking employees who go above and beyond their daily duties. In addition to a commemorative plaque, honorees are given $250.

"My favorite quote is ‘in a world where you can be anything, be kind," Williamson said, noting that growing up, her father taught her that it costs nothing to be kind. They are words of wisdom she follows daily. In nominating Williamson for the award, a colleague wrote, "What drives Kristi is her passion for people, especially students. She is intentional in supporting them in any way she can. Her colleagues and students respect her."

Williamson is a Whynot resident who has been working at the College for nearly three years, and she holds a bachelor's degree in education and a master's degree in library media. What is the most enjoyable aspect of her job? Williamson answered, "Helping others any way I can."

In addition to her MCC duties, which have included working on getting the new library facility up-to-date and relevant, Williamson has served as a Phi Theta Kappa advisor, a member of the local library council, Leadership Lauderdale cohort, and Eagle Leadership Convocation cohort, and has spearheaded the revitalization of the Whynot Community Center. She's also active in her church, Bethany Baptist Church.

Michael Thompson, associate vice president for academic affairs, said Williamson deserves recognition. "Kristi's 'can-do' attitude is contagious and positively impacts everyone she encounters."

Williamson and her husband, Geoffrey, have two sons, Cody, 24, who is married to Lexi Williamson, and Ragan, 22. She counts memorable events in her life as seeing her son marry the love of his life and watching both sons graduate from college in fields they love.

The best thing Williamson likes about MCC is the friendships she's gained.

When she's not at the College, Williamson enjoys tending to her plants and flowers, watching the New York Yankees, reading, and purging unnecessary items from her environment.
