Mike Clymer: MCCer of the Month for January
At the MCCer of the Month celebration are Dr. Tom Huebner, Tonya Crenshaw, Crystal
Sterling, Valerie Bishop, Candace Rainer, Michael Thompson, Dr. Leia Agnew Hill, Mike
Clymer, Christopher Williams, Phyllis Holladay, and Dr. Chad Graham.
"He is very intentional in seeing his students succeed."
That's how one student described Meridian Community College Math Instructor Mike Clymer. Another shared, "He always showed up ready to teach and is super friendly, making me excited to come to his class. I am pursuing a secondary education degree in math, so Mr. Clymer not only taught me math but also taught me successful ways of teaching it!"
Because of Clymer's passion for teaching and encouraging ways, he has been recognized as MCCer of the Month for January. The MCC Foundation sponsors this monthly award to exemplify the College's hardworking employees who go above and beyond their day-to-day duties. Honorees are peer-nominated. In addition to a commemorative plaque, recipients are gifted $250.
Clymer, a native of Mount Union, Pennsylvania, earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics education and a master's in conflict transformation from Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Virginia.
He counts living and working for three years in Swaziland, Africa, as among memorable events, and he notes one of his favorite quotes is from writer E.B. White: "I wake up in the morning torn between the desire to save the world and to savor the world. This makes it hard to plan the day."
A nominator described Clymer as hardworking and organized. "Any time you walk by his office, he is either helping a student or working on notes for the coming classes he has," the nominator said.
Dr. Chad Graham, dean of University Transfer, praised Clymer's dedication and dependability. "Mike exemplifies the qualities we value most in our faculty, demonstrating exceptional dedication, versatility, and a genuine commitment to student success."
Dr. Graham added, "He consistently goes above and beyond his regular duties, whether taking extra classes, participating in committee work, or mentoring new faculty members. Mike's reliable presence and can-do attitude make him an invaluable asset to our institution."
Clymer said his favorite part of working at MCC is teaching students from different backgrounds and life stages. "I especially enjoy working with such a wonderful team of colleagues," he said.
And when he's not working with students, Clymer enjoys gardening, hiking, traveling, and photography.
